About fragrance-free, methylisothiazolinone-free surface cleaners

Is unscented the same as fragrance-free?

No. An unscented product can still contain fragrance, added to cover the smell of its other ingredients. Fragrance-free here means none at all.

What counts as fragrance here?

Anything listed as fragrance, parfum or perfume, any essential oil, and any compound isolated for its scent: linalool, limonene, geraniol, citronellol, eugenol, bisabolol and menthyl lactate. It does not matter why the brand added it.

Can a fragrance-free product still have a smell?

Yes. Raw ingredients such as shea butter, tallow and beeswax have a natural smell of their own. That is not added fragrance.
